I dream of the day when Geoshred will feature velocity sensing (I know they have looked many times how to achieve this at but were not satisfied with the results). Velocity keaboard is really nice but lacks many of the surface settings available in Geoshred. I don't see the point replicating a traditional piano keyboard layout on iOS whereas the GeoShred-style keyboard layout really makes sens. They need to be the right size and shape, the right color, and sized consistently across devices, so that you can use your muscle memory and peripheral vision to activate them with your non-dominant hand, while the other hand plays said:įor playing expressive melodic (monophonic) lines, using a Geoshred-style keyboard controlling an MPE synth is just unbeatable. The virtual instruments need to be designed for fast and loose playing in order for the iPad to achieve its full potential as an instrument. When I finally get around to developing an app, it will most likely be a MIDI controller for "virtuosos". It gives you the scale visualization of a guitar, and some of the range of a piano, while lacking other things.
Its strengths haven't really been taken advantage of yet either, so I find myself less tempted to fall into genre cliches. So now I play the Launchpad X in chromatic mode, which is still unexplored territory among "aspiring virtuosos". And, the touch screen is good for expressive finger wiggling, but simply not as good as a MIDI controller for fast and accurate playing. Not being able to make eye contact with people while playing an instrument is a bit of a limitation for would-be "dueling iPad soloists". You basically have to keep your head looking down and your chest contracted the whole time.
I've spent a lot of time playing a Launchpad-esque layout on Velocity Keyboard, and the dev has implemented some of my requests to make it better for "virtuoso" playing.īut I realized after a few days of daily practice, that tapping on the glass so much could damage my joints, if I spent years mastering it.
